Legislation
requires employers to inform their people about the hazards and
risks in their workplace. This video, entitled Understanding Noise
and Hearing is designed to give people an understanding of how their
ears work, and how they may be affected by noise.
This video
tackles the subject of noise induced deafness - one of the most
insidious hazards to employees' health. It explains clearly and
concisely how progressive damage can be caused by high noise levels
- often without the victim realizing this, until it is too late.
Three aspects of noise are covered in detail: the measurement of
noise levels, the control of noise and the checking of employees'
hearing (audiometry).
The video
shows clearly that harmful noise can often be prevented simply and
effectively. It stresses that where ear protection needs to be worn
it is foolhardy to ignore it. Experience has shown that when people
have an understanding of noise and hearing they are more likely
to wear suitable hearing protection to prevent noise induced hearing
loss.
