Musculoskeletal
disorders account for a significant amount of workplace injuries.
Work Related
Upper Limb Disorders are conditions that can effect the neck,
shoulders, arms, elbows, wrists, hands and fingers.
They can
be caused or made worse by work although other activities such
as sports, hobbies or housework may be involved. Key risk factors
including force, repetition, posture, workstation layout, breaks,
temperature, vibration and in some cases the need for "meaningful
job rotation" are illustrated enabling the audience to understand
the associated risks.
In line
with our philosophy of Prevention through education and training,
we have developed a cartoon based awareness program to help employers
and their employees understand the associated hazards and risks.
This enables them to work together towards reducing the risk as
far as reasonably practical in line with HSE guidance.
The presentation
outlines the basic concepts of how muscles, ligaments and joints
work. It describes the symptoms associated with overuse including
aches and pains, difficulty in movement swelling etc. Interactive
discussion is encouraged and specific training records are signed
by all participants at the end of each session.
